Our school day

The doors open to all children at 8:50am, and lessons start promptly at 9:00am.

All children have a morning breaktime and a break for lunch, which is from 12pm – 1pm.

School ends for all children at 3:30pm.

Late arrivals

Late arrivals should enter School via the main door and are logged each day. 

Lateness has a detrimental effect on children’s learning:

• 5 minutes late each day = 3 days of lost learning
• 15 minutes late each day = 10 days of lost learning
• 30 minutes late each day = 19 days of lost learning

End of the School day

Parents are asked to ensure children are collected promptly. The class teacher or School Office must be informed of any changes to collection arrangements. A child will not be allowed to leave with another parent unless permission has been sent in, or the School Office notified. 

Absence from School

It is essential that we are informed when children are absent from school.  Parents and carers must fill in the absence form for each day of absence.

Attendance and punctuality are really important to us. We are proud that we have little absence or lateness because children love being in our school. 

There will be times when children can’t attend because they are ill. The school office can offer advice on attendance in the case of illness. If a child is physically sick or has diarrhea we request that they remain away from school for 48 hours to help reduce the risk of infection to others.

We ask parents to make medical appointments outsid ethe school day where possible, although we realise that this cannot always happen. Absence for appointments will normally be granted if evidence of the appointment can be provided.

We are unable to authorise absence for holidays in any situation, as these are not classed as ‘exceptional circumstances’. It is our usual policy to process a Penalty Notice for any holidays taken within term time. 

We aren’t able to offer before and after school care on our site. We do, though, have a good relationship with Kid’s Planet at Barkston Ash. They bring children to our school in the morning, and collect them at the end of the day. You can find out more about their provision here
