Igniting the Spirit of Sport: Our Primary Curriculum

At Saxton C of E Primary School, we are passionate about nurturing the physical, social, and mental well-being of our students. We understand the vital role sports play in a child’s development and are proud to offer a dynamic sports provision as an integral part of our primary curriculum.

Our commitment to fostering an active and healthy lifestyle is evident in our approach to physical education. We believe in the transformative power of sports to build character, teamwork, and resilience, values that will serve our students well throughout their lives.

Our Sports Curriculum Highlights:

Physical Well-Being: Our sports curriculum encourages children to embrace a physically active lifestyle. We offer a diverse range of sports and activities that cater to different interests and abilities. From traditional team sports like football and netball to individual pursuits like gymnastics and athletics, we aim to introduce children to a broad spectrum of activities, sparking their enthusiasm for a lifetime of physical well-being.

Teamwork and Collaboration: Team sports are not just about winning; they teach invaluable life lessons. Through sports, our students learn to work together, communicate effectively, and understand the importance of supporting one another. We instill a sense of camaraderie and teach children how to celebrate each other’s successes.

Healthy Competition: Competition is a natural part of sports. We emphasize the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship. Our students learn to compete with integrity and respect for their opponents. These values extend beyond the field or court and help shape the character of our students.

Resilience and Perseverance: Sports teach children that setbacks and challenges are opportunities for growth. We encourage our students to push their limits, overcome obstacles, and develop the resilience to face life’s challenges with confidence and determination.

Mental and Physical Fitness: Physical activity not only promotes physical health but also positively impacts mental well-being. Our sports provision helps children build self-esteem, improve concentration, and manage stress. It is an essential component of their holistic development.

We take pride in our dedicated physical education instructors who inspire our students to explore their physical potential. Our sports facilities provide ample space for a wide range of activities, and we regularly engage in inter-school competitions to instill a sense of pride and teamwork.

Our commitment to sports goes beyond the school day. We encourage students to participate in after-school clubs and events, helping them discover their passions and talents in sports. Our aim is to inspire a love for physical activity that will last a lifetime.

We firmly believe that sports can be a transformative force in a child’s life, and we are dedicated to providing our students with every opportunity to explore, excel, and enjoy the world of sports as part of their primary curriculum at Saxton School.

Sports Premium

The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide ‘new, substantial primary school sport funding’. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
